Pierre no longer has his cone on his head. Actually it has been off since monday. He also got the stiches out. His ear healed much faster then they expected (by 1-2 weeks).
Pierre is home. He is doing great and appears to be his normal self. We filled him back up with a hamburger and fries from Hardees and he is just glad to be home. He has to go back for a checkup some time early next week and will have the cone on his head for about 3 weeks. He has two pills he has to take two times a day. One is for pain and I think the other is an antibiotic for infection or something.
Here are two pictures of Pierre with the cone on the head. First picture is a little blury because he was moving when I took it and I was moving the camera also.
When my mom gets off for lunch tomorrow at 1pm we are going to go and pick him up. We should be there around 2pm.
We wanted to bring him home today but they said he needed to stay overnight so they can change his bandage in the morning along with the seaping that may occur and get on our walls.
At last check he was sleeping and still doing great.
Well, I got tired of waiting for the call so I called them myself. They told me Pierre had just come out of surgery and was waking up. They said the surgery went great!!! They said we probably shouldn’t come to see him until later this evening because he is still kind of out of it from the drugs.
The only bad news is that he has to stay over night so they can monitor the ear. They also told me that it may seap for 24 hours or so and if we brought him home he would probably get blood and stuff on our walls and stuff.
He will have to wear a cone on his head for 3 weeks until they take the stiches out. That stops Pierre from taking them out on his own.
That’s all I know for now.
When Pierre, my dog, came up to my room after being let out of my parents room this morning I noticed his right ear was hanging down while the other was sticking straight up. I didn’t think much of it but noticed it was still like that an hour or so later.
Something told me to check it out, even though something like this is not extremely uncommon, and when I felt his ear it was very swollen. I called the vet and told them and they told me to get him in asap. Of course I wasted no time and got him there.
At the time of me writing this he is in surgery and I am expecting a call in about an hour to hear from them when it is over. I can’t begin to say how hard it was to watch Pierre strugle to not be taken back, away from me, to be prepped for surgery.
The ear was swollen because he had a blood vessel rupture. They said without surgery it would just keep filling up with blood and cause serious problems to his ear.
Of course an update will be coming later today.
Picture of Pierre (this is not a pic of swollen ear)
