My dad and I are completely redoing my room. Everything from top to bottom and side to side is being redone. My room right now doesn’t really look that good with carpet that doesn’t fit the floor, walls with holes and cracks, a ceiling that just looks terrible; and oh, can’t forget the fact that I have no cool entertainment section.
If you have a look by clicking here you can see how bad my room just really looks. Well, using probably a little over a month’s wages from my high paying taco bell job, this is all going to change.
Here is the plan outline as of right now:
- Build in-wall entertainment area.
- Tile the ceiling and redo lighting.
- Redo the wall with most likely paneling.
- Put down new carpet.
- Probably buy a futon and get rid of bed.
Right now we are on step 1. Actually we are already four working days into the project. You can click here to see what it looks like as of right now. As you can see in that picture, there is a nice area for the HDTV and six shelfs for accessories such as my DVD player, surround sound receiver, upcoming XBox 360, and the upcoming satellite receiver.
This entire thing was my dad’s idea after I was looking for a nice entertainment center. I believe this is a great use for one of my slanted walls that really just causes a pain in most cases.
The area directly under the TV will be the place for the subwoofer. This will be covered with grill screen fabric I bought from ebay. The front center speaker will be in the area above the TV in the center, also covered with grill screen fabric. The two front side speakers will be near the wall in little compartments also covered with the fabric. The areas not used will be drywalled. We will then put trim around everything to make it look pretty when we do the walls.
On one of the side walls behind this structure is a closet on the other side of the wall. We are going to cut out a section of that wall which will create a crawl space behind this thing to do future rewiring and stuff.
We should be done with this part, excluding the trim, later today or later this week. Around next weekend we plan on starting on the ceiling.
